Amman, September 28 (Petra) The average price of diesel in the United States reached a record $6.52 per gallon on Monday, marking the highest level ever recorded in the country.

According to The Washington Post, US diesel prices have risen sharply since the beginning of September, surpassing $6 per gallon in several states. The increase is expected to put further pressure on key economic sectors.

The newspaper attributed the price surge to US inventories of diesel and other refined products falling to their lowest levels in years. The domestic supply shortage has coincided with continued global disruptions to shipping and refining, keeping markets under pressure from tight supplies and rising costs.

The American Automobile Association (AAA) reported similar price levels and pointed to the economic repercussions of tensions between the United States and Iran.

Diesel prices were particularly high in several states, exceeding $8.40 per gallon in California, $7.10 in Hawaii and reaching $6.80 in Michigan.

Media reports said the average US diesel price stood at $5.96 per gallon on Sept. 7, highlighting the sharp increase over the past three weeks.

The rise comes amid higher global energy prices driven by supply disruptions, including the continued closure of the Strait of Hormuz and shipping disruptions in the Bab al-Mandab Strait.

Brent crude futures rose about 2.7 percent on Monday at the start of the new trading week, reaching $107 per barrel. US crude futures also climbed 2.5 percent to around $94.80 per barrel.
